During his doctoral studies at the Faculty of Arts in Ljubljana in 2010 he prepared his dissertation entitled Poezija Franceta Prešerna v srednješolskih učbenikih in njena recepcija (dealing with problems of canonizing, didactics and reader’s response), which has also been published as a book (entitled Slovene Literature in Education and the Poetry of France Prešeren). He has been a member of the Slovenian National Council and the president of the Commission for the Culture, Science, Education and Sports.
In the last few years he has published several scientific papers in countries such as USA Prosification - a didactic means of improving reception of Krst pri Savici (The Baptism at the Savica) (2010) and The learning chain of excerpts didactic model: the example of the novella Tantadruj by Ciril Kosmač (2017) and Christianization in Prešeren and Bevk: Patriotic elements and values in Prešeren's poem The Baptism at the Savica and Bevk's story The Dying God Triglav (2018) and The Topic of Mining in Secondary School Literature Textbooks from 1850 to 1950 (2018), Canada The problem of interpreting and receiving Prešeren's poem To the Poet (2014), Estonia France Prešeren's poems: from misunderstanding to teaching (2013) and The Baptism at the Savica by France Prešeren as a successful attempt to outwit the censorship: romantic confession of a defeated person, a member of an unfree nation (2014), Slovakia Evaluation of France Prešeren’s poems (2014), Poland Empirical Research: how to Improve Reception of Classical Poetry (2015), Serbia World War I in secondary school literature textbooks during the interwar period (2018) and Greece The Problem of the Representation of Women Authors in Slovenian Secondary School Literature Textbooks (2016).
His research interest is the interpretation of France Prešeren's romantic poems, such as The Baptism at The Savica, To the Poet and The Garland of Sonnets. He is dealing with the literary works of Slovenian writers Simon Gregorčič, Ciril Kosmač, France Bevk, Ljubka Šorli, Damir Feigel, Pavlina Pajk etc.
His research occupation are also the parliamentary studies (elections and voting systems).
He is a member of the Greek scientific association ATINER and of the Reviwer's Board of Athens Journal of Philology. He is also a member of the Editorial Board of Serbian Journal of Processes in Management: New Technologies International (Vranje) and a member of the Academic Genesis Platform (London and Istanbul). He is the member of the editorial board of Sumerianz Journal of Education, Linguistics and Literature (Punjab, Pakistan) and the member of the editorial board of International Journal of Literature and Arts, New York, USA. He is also the member of the Society for Slovene Studies (USA).
His hobby is occupation with old sorts of fruit in Kojsko at Goriška Brda (Slovenia).edit

For more than thirty years, he has been teaching Slovenian language and literature at the High School of Economics and has also written two manuals for home reading entitled Zlati poljub (The Golden Kiss) and Poljub zlata (The Kiss of Gold). The manuals introduce sixty narrative and dramatic texts from the Slovenian and world literature, presented as a learning chain based on fragments and supplemented with questions for close reading.

Both texts were created during pivotal moments of Slovene history: Prešeren’s poem at a time of German political, economic, and cultural supremacy and newly emerging demands for a united Slovenia, and Bevk’s during the time of Italian fascism and the occupation of the Slovene Primorska region.
At first glance, Prešeren’s poetry of high Romanticism and Bevk’s supposedly trivial work have nothing in common apart from the topic of paganism and Christianity. However, they both convey a hidden message that could not be stated outright due to the censorship policies of the authorities at the time, to condemnation of aggressive foreign rulers, to appeals to national unity, to heightened patriotic consciousness, and to a relationship with nature that establishes the here and now as the highest value, and not the hereafter. The comparison and interpretation presented here sees in Bevk’s work a direct connection to Prešeren’s poem, its thematic continuation, temporal adaptation, and interpretation.

The paper deals with responses to World War I in Slovenian secondary school literature textbooks in the interwar period. Among other texts, these textbooks in the 1920s feature writings about the Isonzo front, expressing the pain due to the loss of the Littoral region. The textbook published within the frames of fascist Italy is a special case, since its compiler had to express his national awareness and the condemnation of war atrocities in a concealed way. In the 1930s, only texts describing the retreat of the Serbian army to Corfu or to the Macedonian front are published, since the Kingdom of Yugoslavia could not build national awareness with texts depicting suffering or heroism of the defeated soldiers.

ODLOČBA Ustavno sodišče je v postopku za oceno ustavnosti, začetem z zahtevo Državnega sveta, po opravljeni javni obravnavi 7. novembra 2017, na seji 8. novembra 2018 odločilo: 1. Drugi odstavek 91. člena Zakona o volitvah v Državni zbor (Uradni list RS, št. 109/06-uradno prečiščeno besedilo in 23/17) ni v neskladju z Ustavo. 2. Prvi odstavek 7. člena, 42., 43. in 44. člen Zakona o volitvah v Državni zbor niso v neskladju z Ustavo. 3. Člen 4 Zakona o določitvi volilnih enot za volitve poslancev v Državni zbor (Uradni list RS, št. 24/05-uradno prečiščeno besedilo) je v neskladju z Ustavo. 4. Državni zbor mora ugotovljeno protiustavnost iz prejšnje točke izreka odpraviti v roku dveh let po objavi te odločbe v Uradnem listu Republike Slovenije. 5. Zahteva za oceno ustavnosti petega odstavka 80. člena Ustave se zavrže.

ODLOČBA Ustavno sodišče je v postopku, začetem s sklepom Ustavnega sodišča, in v postopkih odločanja o pritožbah Zorana Božiča, Nova Gorica, in Zveze društev Slavistično društvo Slovenije, Ljubljana, ki jo zastopa dr. Andreja Žele, Ljubljana, na seji 29. novembra 2018 odločilo: 1. Člen 50 Zakona o Državnem svetu (Uradni list RS, št. 100/05-uradno prečiščeno besedilo) je v neskladju z Ustavo. 2. Državni zbor mora ugotovljeno protiustavnost iz prejšnje točke odpraviti v roku enega leta po objavi te odločbe v Uradnem listu Republike Slovenije. 3. Do drugačne zakonske ureditve lahko vloži pritožbo zoper odločitev Državnega sveta, sprejeto v postopku potrjevanja mandatov članov Državnega sveta, vsak kandidat in predlagatelj kandidata. 4. Pritožbi zoper sklep Državnega sveta št. 020-03-5/2017 z dne 12. 12. 2017 se zavrneta.

During the first century of secondary school literature textbook publishing (from the introduction of Slovenian language as a school subject after the March Revolution in the Austrian Empire to the first Five-Year Plan after World War II) over a hundred texts featuring the topic of mining and related activities were included. The first writings have a clearly affirmative attitude towards mining, perceived and presented as a way of promoting general prosperity. The first mentions of the negative aspects of mining and the deceptive folly of coveting precious mineral resources appear towards the end of the 19th century. Only during the interwar period, however, were there various texts which presented mining as an inhumane and dangerous activity. After World War II the approach was again optimistic: in central literature textbooks mining was depicted as the glorification of socialist progress. Relevant texts were published in eight series of textbooks, the first as early as in the Bleiweis series for lower secondary schools in 1850 and the last in the ethnic Slovenian Beličič series of textbooks in 1947. The discovery of mercury in the Idrija mine was described by Valvazor, Kastelic, Hrovat and Oblak.

Kje iskati vzroke za tako hude zaplete pri iskanju mandatarja z zadostno podporo v parlamentu kot tudi pri sestavi bodoče vladne koalicije? Eden ključnih razlogov je neposrečeni volilni sistem. Ste vedeli, da je bilo na letošnjih predčasnih volitvah 3. junija kar 53 od 88 poslancev državnega zbora izvoljenih v nasprotju z ustavo? Zgolj stranka SDS je dosegla 100 % legitimnost izvoljenih poslancev. Stranke, ki imajo ustavno sporne prav vse izvoljene poslance, pa so NSi, SMC, DeSUS, SAB in SNS. Naš sodelavec Zoran Božič se je namreč izjemno temeljito poglobil v jedro problema našega ponesrečenega volilnega sistema, ki je glavni krivec za politične krize v Sloveniji zadnji dve desetletji, hkrati je argumentirano dokazal prednosti dvokrožnega večinskega sistema. Analiza Zorana Božiča je celo za portal+ nadpovprečno dolga, vendar se je uredništvu smiselno, predvsem pa nujno, da jo objavi v celoti oziroma v enem delu.

Obe besedili sta nastali v prelomnih trenutkih slovenske zgodovine: Prešernova pesnitev v času nemške politične, gospodarske in kulturne nadvlade in porajanja zahtev po združeni Sloveniji, Bevkova povest pa v času italijanskega fašizma in okupacije Primorske. Na prvi pogled Prešernova visoka romantična poezija in Bevkova prej-kone trivialna povest razen tematike poganstva in krščanstva nimata nič skupnega, vendar pa gre v obeh primerih za prikrito sporočilo, pogojeno s cenzurnimi postopki tedanje oblasti, za obsodbo nasilnih tujih oblastni-kov, za pozive k narodni enotnosti, za poudarjanje domoljubne zavesti in za odnos do narave, ki kot najvišjo vrednoto vzpostavlja tostranstvo in ne onostranstvo. Pričujoča primerjava in interpretacija pa vidi v Bevkovi povesti tudi neposredno navezavo na Prešernovo pesnitev, in sicer kot njeno tematsko nadaljevanje, časovno prilagoditev in razlago.

Slovenska ustava iz leta 1991 – dopolnjena leta 2000 – vključuje tri temeljna načela, povezana z volilnim sistemom: "v Sloveniji imajo oblast politične stranke" (3. člen), "politične stranke imajo odločilen vpliv na dodelitev mandatov kandidatom" (80. člen) in "poslanci so predstavniki političnih strank in v Državnem zboru glasujejo v skladu z njihovimi navodili" (82. člen). Zato je tudi povsem razumljivo, da v 168. členu ustava sicer dovoljuje ljudstvu, da predlaga spremembe, če mu uspe zbrati 30.000 podpisov, ampak o sprejemu ustavne spremembe odločajo poslanci in tudi o možnem referendumu odločajo poslanci. V skladu s prej omenjenimi načeli: tudi o tem odločajo stranke.

Državnozborske volitve se nezadržno bližajo in ustavno sodišče zna v naslednjih mesecih usodno poseči v debato o ustreznosti sedanje volilne zakonodaje: tudi če bodo volitve potekale po starem, bo nad nekaterimi izvoljenimi poslanci lebdela senca nelegitimnosti. Javna obravnava zahteve Državnega sveta za oceno ustavnosti nekaterih členov dveh zakonov o volitvah v Državni zbor je pokazala, da ustavno določilo, po katerem imajo volivci odločilen vpliv na podelitev mandatov kandidatom, očitno ni uresničeno.

V dneh ob kulturnem prazniku se vrstijo prireditve na čast "največjemu" slovenskemu pesniku, v njegovem imenu se podeljujejo državna priznanja za umetniške dosežke in recitirajo se njegove pesmi. Prešerna obožujemo in slavimo, celo trgujemo z njegovo podobo na kovancih za dva evra, le redko pa ga tudi beremo in še manj prisluhnemo še danes veljavnim sporočilom njegovih pesmi. Celo mladi, ki bi jim morala biti pesnikova uporniška drža in njegova nenehna razpetost med upom in strahom najbliže, dojemajo Prešerna predvsem kot nacionalno pop ikono, ga spoznavajo kot obveznega šolskega avtorja v berilih in skoraj nikoli sami od sebe ne iščejo pesniških biserov njegovih Poezij.

Nič posebno novega niso spoznanja o precejšnji recepcijski zahtevnosti Prešernovih pesmi, vendar je šele razvoj literarne vede (predvsem teorije o bralčevem odzivu), pedagoške psihologije in didaktike književnost v zadnjih desetletjih omogočil, da se problematike lotevamo na znanstven, tj. empirično preverljiv način. Empirične raziskave razumevanja Prešernovih pesmi kažejo, da so njegove pesmi recepcijsko dosti bolj zahtevne kot pesmi drugih slovenskih klasičnih pesnikov iz 19. stoletja (npr. Jenka, Gregorčiča ali Aškerca) in da so med samimi pesmimi zelo velike razlike. Med možnimi didaktičnimi sredstvi za izboljšanje razumevanja zahtevne klasične poezije (to so jezikovna posodobitev, poopombljenje in prozifikacija) se je kot najbolj primerno sredstvo pokazala dodana prestavitev verzov v prozno obliko, predvsem pri daljših pesniških besedilih.

Prispevek obravnava odmeve na prvo svetovno vojno v slovenskih srednješolskih berilih v obdobju med dvema vojnama. V dvajsetih letih 20. stoletja se poleg drugih pojavljajo tudi zapisi o soški fronti, ki se povezujejo z izpovedjo bolečine zaradi izgube Primorske. Posebnost je berilo, izšlo v okvirih fašistične Italije, ko je moral sestavljavec izpovedovati narodno zavest in obsojati vojne grozote na prikrit način. V tridesetih letih se pojavljajo samo še sestavki s tematiko umika srbske vojske na Krf oz. solunske fronte, saj Kraljevina Jugoslavija ni mogla graditi državotvorne zavesti z zapisi o trpljenju ali junaštvu poražencev.

Naslov ni izbran naključno. Tudi učni jezik mora imeti dobre temelje, kot zidana šola dober načrt in kakovostno izvedbo: če s stanjem slovenščine v današnji osnovni in srednji in visoki šoli nismo zadovoljni, je treba pogledati, kje so morebitne razpoke, kako utrditi temelje in kako popraviti streho. To razmišljanje se začenja z drugo polovico 18. stoletja, težišče pa je na obdobju po drugi svetovni vojni, torej dvesto let kasneje: ker gre tudi za čas mojega življe-nja, je pogled zelo oseben. Tako kot je postopoma zorela slovenska državnost, sem dozoreval tudi sam: kot učitelj, slovenist in literarni zgodovinar.

Članek temelji na številčni raziskavi deleža avtoric v slovenskih srednješolskih berilih od leta 1850 do leta 2000. Najvišji odstotek (okoli 15) so dosegle avtorice v berilih po drugi svetovni vojni in v sodobnih berilih, vendar samo v enem od treh konkurenčnih, ki gre pri izboru avtorjev precej širše od veljavnega učnega načrta. Raziskava je pokazala, da je delež avtoric odvisen od širine pristopa: manj je vključenih vseh avtorjev, manj je možnosti za pojavljanje avtoric. Pri zelo gostem situ nacionalno reprezentativnih književnikov ženski spol sploh ni zastopan. Spol sestavljavca/sestavljavcev berila lahko vpliva na možnosti za pojavljanje avtoric, vendar ne nujno: lahko je sestavljavka berila ženska, pa vanj ni vključena niti ena književnica. Primerjava med berili in literarnozgodovinskimi izbori pokaže, da so avtorice v berilih (zaradi omejenosti obsega, ki ga določajo vključena literarna besedila) manj prisotne, pa tudi izborna merila so lahko drugačna.

The paper presents a case study of the interpretation of a medium-length narrative text in pre-college settings based on a learning chain of excerpts model supplemented with questions for close reading. This didactic approach had already become widespread in Slovenia prior to WW II, and achieved a more systematic realization with the publication of two workbooks for home reading: Zlati poljub (The golden kiss; Božič 1998) and Poljub zlata (The kiss of gold; Božič 1998) in 1998. After almost two decades of its application in schools, it is time for a more detailed assessment of the approach and its usefulness, which has been carried out by also comparing two learning chains that were created for the well-known novella " Tantadruj " by Kosmač. The paper concludes with a learning chain that connects Tantadruj's search for happiness with the narrator's search for creative inspiration.

Državni svet bo v torek, dan pred praznikom slovenske kulture, odločal o vložitvi zahteve za oceno ustavnosti zakona o medijih, in sicer v tistem delu, ki se nanaša na sporno in škandalozno kvoto slovenske glasbe ter njene deleže v radijskih programih. Pobudo Sindikata glasbenih urednikov Slovenije je že potrdila komisija za kulturo, ki ji predseduje dr. Zoran Božič. Slednji je za razliko od koalicijskih poslancev prisluhnil opozorilom medijskih strokovnjakov, za Portal PLUS pa je prispeval tudi komentar, ki ga objavljamo v nadaljevanju. Sedanja zakonska rešitev je kontraproduktivna: na naših nacionalnih in komercialnih radijskih postajah se vrti vedno več vsebinsko, jezikovno in glasbeno problematične slovenske glasbe.

This paper is based on empirical research on the share of women authors in Slovenian secondary school literature textbooks between 1850 and 2000. The highest share (about 15%) of women authors was achieved after the Second World War and in contemporary textbooks. However, this share occurred in only one of three competing books, one which offers a considerably larger selection of authors than that required by the curriculum. The research showed that the share of women authors depends on the scope of the approach: the fewer authors that are included, the smaller is the likelihood of women authors being represented. With a very strict selection of nationally representative authors, the female gender is not represented at all. The gender of the selector(s) may influence the inclusion of women authors, but not necessarily: a textbookʼs editor may be a woman, yet still fail to include a single woman author. A comparison between textbooks and literary-historical selections shows that women authors in textbooks are less represented (due to limitations of the scope as determined by the included literary texts), and the selection criteria may also differ.

In his TV play AVTOSTOP (Hitchhiking) D. Jovanovič characterizes his characters in respect of their social and geographical provenance by an amount of phonetic features characteristic of individual social kinds of language (of educated language, general and regional variants, dialect). All these kinds of language in the play show an inconsistent distribution of phonetic characteristics. Substandard vocabulary, us well as peculiar morphology and syntax contribute to this unstratification. Linguistic means of characterization are used by the author consciously.

Vaški otročaji popoldne, ko ni več pouka v prostorni novi šoli, že posedajo na koncu avškega polja, od koder je prelep razgled na nedavno zgrajeno železniško postajo in na mogočen kamnit viadukt, ki se s svojimi sedmimi loki pne nad strugo hudourniške Avšce. Otroci nestrpno čakajo in vztrepetajo, ko ob določeni uri pripelje vlak. Padec z jasnega neba "Zdaj se bo začelo novo življenje. Proga prinaša napredek. Naši otroci bodo nadaljevali šolanje v slovenskih šolah v Gorici in ne bodo več samo kmetje, kovači, mizarji, čevljarji in furmani. Novo stoletje bo doba blagostanja in Slovenci v teh krajih bomo vedno močnejši," v nedeljo po maši vzneseno modruje župan Ivan Makarovič v vaški gostilni. Mlajši moški mu zavzeto pritrjujejo, izkušeni očanci pa puhajo tobačni dim izpod brk in si mislijo svoje. Dne 31. marca 1908. Movrnov boršt, dobre pol ure hoje iz Avč proti Banjšicam. Hladno spomladansko jutro, a napoveduje se jasen, sončen dan. Janez Kolenc iz Gorenjega Avščka ima opravke v gozdu in s seboj je vzel šestletnega sina, da tudi njega vzgoji v pridnega delavca. Ura je 8.45. Nenadoma zasliši močno šumenje in žvižganje, ozira se okrog, a ne vidi nič. Šum narašča in traja, traja. Preplašeni sinek se stisne k očetu. Nenadoma nekaj trešči v drevo, kakšnih štirideset metrov v blagem bregu pod njim, in Janez opazi pet centimetrov debelo vejo, ki se hrešče odlomi, v bližini jablane pa se vzdigne oblaček prahu. Kolenc je radoveden, a boji se približati drevesu, tudi zaradi na smrt prestrašenega otroka, ki ga priganja, naj odideta domov. Skrbni oče posluša sina, a doma mu radovednost ne da miru. Popoldne poišče bližnjega prijatelja, s katerim sta bila skupaj v vojski, in nemudoma pohitita v Boršte. Ob jablani najdeta jamico, obkroženo z ožganim listjem, in začneta kopati. Trideset centimetrov globoko ju čaka presenečenje: svetleč kovinski predmet, podoben ledvički, dolg za ped in težak dober kilogram. Skrbno ga zavijeta, spravita v malho in pohitita v Avče.

This book attempts to present, in a comprehensive manner, the issues concerning the reception of poetry by France Prešeren, the greatest Slovenian poet of the Romantic period. The work focuses on the issues of understanding, evaluation and interpretation. When analysing poems, it makes use of both the relevant scientific literature as well as the empirical tests. It also includes important extra-textual facts of the poet's life. France Prešeren (1800–1849) graduated in law in Vienna. He lived and worked in Ljubljana, and, due to his free thinking and Slovenian patriotism, was considered politically incorrect in the former Austria, and was admitted to the Bar only two years before his death. His best known poems are Sonnets of Unhappiness, Wreath of Sonnets and The Baptism by the Savica. He published a collection of his poems, entitled Poems, in 1847. The seventh stanza of his poem A Toast is the present Slovenian anthem. The highest award for artistic achievement is named after Prešeren and the date of his death is a national holiday. An empirical study of understanding The Baptism at the Savica showed that Slovenian high school students had notable difficulties in decoding the basic meanings of Prešeren's poem. In literature, didactics offer three methods of facilitating reception of complex classical poetry: linguistic modernisation, addition of notes, and transmission into prose. Due to the cult status of Prešeren’s poetry, modernizations can only be limited, while commenting hinders a spontaneous reading experience; as a result, only prosification entirely solves the problems of pronounced archaization, inverted word order and abundant metaphors in Prešeren’s lines. This was confirmed by an empirical study in which high school students, who read the prozification together with the verses from The Baptism at the Savica, attested a comprehension which was twice as good as comprehension of students who only read the poetry. The second chapter, referring to the school selection of Prešeren's poems, deals with the problem of evaluating Prešeren's poems. When selecting literary texts for secondary school reading books, the modern literature didactics recommend giving priority to the principles of reception and literary history. A study of the evaluation criteria of three leading experts on Prešeren from the second half of the 20th century brings recognition that, in spite of significant differences between them, literary historians, above all, value formally complex and receptively demanding poems belonging to the central period of Prešeren's romanticism. Although the influence of literary-historical principle is also noticed in secondary school students, these attribute the most value to Prešeren's poems with simple forms and less demanding reception, predominantly those that have a story, are easier to understand and provide a complete experience. Baptism at the Savica, an epic about the loss of Slovenian independence, can also be understood as a successful attempt by France Prešeren at how to outwit censors and use the form of a historic tale as a metaphor for expressing the content which, due to censorship, had to be omitted from his elegy Dem Andenken des Matthias Čop. Such an approach can help us resolve several apparent contradictions, shown in the interpretative history of the Baptism, such as the problem of Prešeren’s own characterisation of the poem in his letter to Čelakovský, or the question of Črtomir’s conversion at the end of the third part of this epic poem. In the 20th century, several interpretations came into being that understood Črtomir’s conversion to Christianity as an inevitable choice made by Slovenians in favour of a stronger, uniquely prospective Western culture circle, which serves as justification for Črtomir’s renunciation of freedom-loving Slovenianhood. According to the new understanding of The Baptism at the Savica, there are two Črtomirs, one is the hero and the other is the defeated one (the former, as he himself would like to be, is only an illusion by Prešeren, and the latter, as he indeed is, is the one with whom the poet completely identifies himself), and the final message of the epic poem is understood as a condemnation of cultural inequality.

Old fruit varieties in the Goriško region 1-2 Following the introduction, which emphasizes the importance of preserving and disseminating old fruit varieties (during the time of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the Goriško region was its fruit-growing paradise), the first part of the publication includes an interview with Bruno Podveršič, a pioneer in this type of research. Disertacija obravnava dva problemska sklopa: poezijo Franceta Prešerna v srednješolskih učbenikih za pouk književnosti od leta 1850 do leta 2010 ter recepcijo Prešernovih pesmi skozi čas in v sodobnosti. V prvem problemskem sklopu razkriva dejavnike in postopke šolske kanonizacije Prešerna ter razvoj didaktizacije beril v smeri učne knjige za samostojno delo z besedilom. V drugem problemskem sklopu raziskuje posebnosti pri razumevanju, doživljanju in vrednotenju Prešernovih pesmi ter načine za njihovo čimbolj učinkovito šolsko predstavitev.
Glede na to, da se je kanonizacija Prešerna začela že za časa njegovega življenja, je bil seveda vseh 160 let kanonski avtor, vendar pa kljub nenehnemu označevanju Prešerna za "največjega slovenskega pesnika" po številu besedilnih enot v berilih ni bil vedno prvi avtor, pač pa so ga večkrat prehitevali mlajši književniki, ki so bolj ustrezali trenutnim afinitetam sestavljavcev srednješolskih beril. Predvsem v drugi polovici 19. stoletja in tudi kasneje je bil zaradi negativnega odnosa šolskih oblasti do ljubezenske poezije izbor Prešernovih pesmi praviloma manj primeren (na nižji stopnji je bil največkrat objavljen sonet Memento mori, na višji stopnji pa cikel Soneti nesreče), nekatere ljubezenske pesmi pa so celo cenzurirali.
Od druge polovice 19. stoletja do danes se je razvijal didaktični instrumentarij srednješolskih beril (najprej so začeli dodajati stvarne opombe, kasneje pa še vprašanja in naloge za dejavno razčlembo leposlovnega besedila), vendar so še zlasti v obdobju po drugi svetovni vojni nekateri sestavi beril didaktično pomenili izrazito nazadovanje. Od sedemdesetih let dalje berila vključujejo tako literarnovedne vsebine kot vprašanja in naloge, sodobna berila pa se praviloma (izjema je npr. antološki sestav Krakar 2003) razvijajo v smeri vezanega berila z relativno majhno ponudbo leposlovnih besedil.

This monography focuses on two main problem areas: slovene literature and especially France Prešeren’s poetry in literature textbooks for secondary schools in the period from 1850 to 2010 and its reception throughout time and today. In the first problem area it illustrates the factors and procedures of the poet’s school canonization and how the didactization of the textbook as an aid for individual work with literary texts has developed. In the second problem area it explores both the characteristic features in the understanding, experiencing and evaluating Prešeren’s poetry, and the methods for an efficient school presentation. Prešeren has been a canonical author throughout all these 160 years, due to the fact that his canonization started while he was still alive. However, although he has always been referred to as “the greatest Slovenian poet”, he has not always been the leading author regarding the number of text units in textbooks. In fact, he was often overtaken by younger literates who were better-suited to the textbook editors’ affinities of the time. Particularly, in the second part of the 19th century, and even later, due to a negative attitude of the school authorities towards love poetry, the selection of Prešeren’s poems was considered less appropriate (for the lower stage, the sonnet Memento mori was usually published, whereas the students of the higher stage read the sonnet cycle Soneti nesreče [Sonnets of Unhappiness]). Some of the love poems were even censured. From the second half of the 19th century onwards a didactic instrumentarium of high-school textbooks has been in constant development (at first, notes were added, followed by questions and exercises for an active analysis of a literary work). But still, some compositions of textbooks showed a great didactic regression, especially in the period after World War II. The textbooks created since the Seventies include texts on literary studies as well as questions and exercises, whereas modern textbooks tend to develop in the direction of textbooks which only contain texts linked to the curriculum, and offer a relatively small range of literary works (except for, e.g. the Krakar’s anthology from 2003). A historical review has shown that even Prešeren’s contemporaries had difficulty in understanding his poems, and so did intellectuals or even Prešeren scholars later on. Empirical experiments among Slovene secondary-school students have proved that Prešeren’s poetry is difficult to interpret. Some of his most important poems (i.e. Krst pri Savici [The Baptism by the Savica]) require a large amount of footnotes. This is why the most adequate didactic measure to improve the experiencing of a stylistically demanding classical poetry is the prosification of the poem that comes as an appendix to the original – a fact that was fully confirmed by the results of the pedagogical experiment.

Da bi vsaj v obrisih ugotovili, katere sadne sorte so na Goriškem obstajale in kje se nahajajo drevesa z uporabnimi cepiči različnih starih sort, smo v letih 2012 in 2013 izvedli pilotno terensko raziskavo, ki naj bi dala približno sliko stanja in bila tudi podlaga za bolj sistematične in obširnejše nadaljnje raziskave. Prvi del terenske raziskave je potekal individualno, in sicer najprej s preučevanjem tuje in slovenske (predvsem starejše) literature, potem pa z obiskovanjem posameznih vasi, iskanjem informatorjev in opazovanjem starih sadovnjakov. Predvsem nekateri starejši sadjarji so bili dragocen vir podatkov, ki so omogočali širjenje kroga informatorjev, preverjanje že dobljenih informacij o starih sadnih sortah, njihovih značilnostih in možnostih uporabe, predvsem pa tudi nabiranje cepičev za vzgojo dreves v matičnem sadovnjaku. Pri drugem delu terenske raziskave so sodelovali predvsem dijaki Biotehnične šole iz Šempetra pri Novi Gorici, Škofijske gimnazije iz Vipave in Srednje ekonomske in trgovske šole iz Nove Gorice, njim pa se je pridružilo še nekaj posameznikov. Naloga popisovalcev je bila, da v posamezni vasi poiščejo starejšega informatorja, poznavalca starih sort, skupaj z njim izpolnijo vprašalnik in ga v določenem roku oddajo svojemu učitelju. Informacije o starih sadnih sortah so bile zbrane v naslednjih petdesetih naseljih (največ iz Goriških Brd in Vipavske doline) Sledila je analiza, ki je prinesla zanimivo sliko ohranjenosti in nekdanje razprostranjenosti starih sort na Goriškem. Najprej se je pokazalo, da ima lahko ista sadna sorta več različnih imen (npr. pastorjevka ali rončarca ali zimka), isto ime pa ne pomeni nujno tudi iste sorte. V Brdih so npr. uspevale štrnivke, rdeče-rumene drobnejše jesenske hruške, ki so jih sušili na soncu in izvažali celo na Dunaj, vendar so se z leti izgubile. Štrnivka je bila po popisu najdena tudi v Čadrgu, in sicer gre za staro drevo, ki pa ima drobne zeleno-rumene poletne hruške, podobne tepkam. Šele dodatna terenska raziskava, pri kateri bi si v vseh obdelanih naseljih ogledali posamezna drevesa in preučili njihove sadeže, bi omogočila zanesljivo določiti različna poimenovanja za isto sadno sorto. Največ starih sort smo našli pri hruškah (okoli devetdeset), jablanah (okoli petdeset), češnjah (okoli petintrideset), figah (okoli trideset) in breskvah (okoli petindvajset). Našli smo še okoli petnajst sort sliv in le osem sort marelic. Te razlike v številu sort so razumljive, in sicer zato, ker so sveže in posušene hruške nekoč gotovo predstavljale najpomembnješe prehransko dopolnilo, ker so sorte hrušk po času zrelosti razporejene od zgodnjih poletnih do poznih jesenskih in ker hruškova drevesa lahko dosežejo zelo visoko starost. Podobno je pričakovano veliko število sort jablan, čeprav se ta po življenjski dobi dreves ne morejo meriti s hruškami. Po drugi strani so češnje po času dozorevanja omejene na dober mesec, drevesa marelic in breskev pa propadejo že po nekaj desetletjih.

Rezultate pedagoškega eksperimenta z dvema vzporednima skupinama, ki naj bi potrdili ali ovrgli didaktično ustreznost oz. pomembnost eksperimentalnega dejavnika (dodatnega gradiva za olajšanje razumevanja in izboljšanje doživljanja Prešernovih pesmi), sem empirično ugotavljal dvakrat: po končani obravnavi Prešerna meseca decembra in proti koncu pouka meseca maja. Z drugim testnim vprašalnikom (Priloga R6) sem preverjal napredek v poznavanju Prešerna in zmožnostih za razumevanje njegovih pesmi predvsem zaradi eksperimenta samega, s tretjim testnim vprašalnikom (Priloga R8) pa sem ugotavljal, koliko znanja in bralnih zmožnosti so trajneje pridobili dijaki. Z drugim testnim vprašalnikom sem ugotavljal tudi to, ali je vnos eksperimentalnega dejavnika vplival na odnos dijakov do Prešernovih pesmi in njihovega avtorja nasploh, zanimalo pa me je še vprašanje, kako dijaki doživljajo in vrednotijo posamezne obravnavane Prešernove pesmi.

Poglavje prinaša pedagoški ekaperiment, s katerim naj bi potrdil primernost prozifikacie in drugih didaktičnih sredstev za obravnavo Prešernove poezije v srednji šoli. Gre za ekperimenatlni model dveh ekvivalentnih skupin: eksperimentalne, ki ima dodatno gradivo kot eksperimentalni dejavnik, in kontrolne. Sodelovali sta dve splošni in dve strokovni gimnaziji.
